UPDATED Your New Wings – Logo Design Brief

TWO DAYS IN AND THE ENTRIES SO FAR HAVE MADE ME REALISE THAT MY ORIGINAL CONCEPT IS POSSIBLY TOO COMPLICATED. I WOULD LIKE TO STICK WITH MY DAMSEL /DRAGON FLY AS I LOVE THE SIMPLICITY OF IT. I HAVE ADDED A FEW MORE SKETCHES OF IDEAS OF PERHAPS INCORPORATING THE WINGS AS LETTERS IN THE LOGO... I LOVE SIMPLE JAPANESE DESIGN SO THE TWO DRAGON FLIES IN A CIRCLE IS SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH ( I have attached some new images) - THE DILEMA IS TRYING TO GET THE WORDS IN SO IT IS NOT TOO BUSY...ANY INPUT EXTREMELY WELCOME! THANK YOU!

I need a Logo for my Life Coaching business. I am in the process of writing my website and just beginning to design some advertising.

To date I have been using a damsel fly as my logo (attached) on my business card and love it for its simplicity, but I have now settled on my business name being Your New Wings - www.yournewwings.com and so I think I need something new.

My target clients are Mums who are trying to juggle kids, partners, work, parents and friends etc. and are really looking after everyone else except themselves. The concept of your new wings is based on my work with these Mums who come to me exhausted and overwhelmed and feeling like they aren’t doing enough but have nothing else to give. I work with them to help them rediscover themselves and what it is they want for themselves outside caring for their family. ‘New wing’ is about achieving a new level of self-awareness about moving from the - I ‘should’ do to the - I ‘want’ to do. In the process many of them discover something outside their family that is just for them that they can be passionate about. It may be work, a hobby or an undiscovered passion.

The imagery of wings is really about them creating something special for themselves that makes them happy. Something which is completely of their own design and signifies their freedom and lightness. I want the logo to display a sense of freedom, hope, passion and lightness - open ended possibility.

I am attaching a sketch of an idea I have – my concern about my sketch is that it is too detailed, but I am not sure how I could make it more simplistic and still get my idea across of endless possibility in the type of wings we choose for ourselves (I choose the dragon fly – so it needs to be somewhere)… I am very open to new interpretations of what I am trying to do.

I have attached:
1) My current damsel fly logo (free from copyright)
2) A draft of a brochure I am working on which further conveys what I do.
3) My concept sketch
4) An example of how I have used my logo and orange text in my work previously.
5) Numerous images, which I like. (These may be subject to copyright and are for illustration purposes only). I have an ecological background and love the style of scientific drawing and ink drawing. Other winged images that could be included that I have not necessarily found specific images for are:
o Damselfly
o Dragonfly
o Bird (a number of types?)
o Bat
o Lady bird
o Other beetles
o Pterodactyl

Colour scheme
I like the orange text – my other favorite colours are red and purple
I like the colours on the world image I attached
Open to other ideas

I would also like the logo to be versatile enough to use in as many applications as possible:
1) For each of the elements of the logo to be separated out so that I can use the various images to make a boarder on a poster for example.
2) For the logo to work at different sizes (i.e. Delivered in Scaleable Vector format)
3) Looks good in color as well as in black and white
4) Looks good in small and big size
5) Looks good on dark and light backgrounds
6) Can be used as watermark
7) Can be used without the words if necessary
