I'm a lady looking for a blackwork tattoo design for just beneath the breasts. I want the style to be abstract, while being clear that the subject is a bird (see attachment 1). To be clear, I want a very contemporary look- nothing traditional or retro. To demonstrate the style of abstract I am aiming for, I have added attachments by 3 artists. PLEASE look at these files. I DON'T want realistic looking birds. Attachment 1 is just the springboard.

I like the scribbly-randomness of Jana Schroder's piece- I grey-scaled it (see attachment 2). I like how abstract attachment 3 is, and the balance of detail vs. space (sorry, I saved this photo a long time ago and I don't have the credit). Please note, I would not like ink droplets in my piece. I love Picasso's minimalist, abstract outlines of animals in the "Picasso examples" attachment.

I think the most flattering position for the bird would be as in attachment 1 but with the wings tilted slightly to follow the curve of the underside of the breasts. I do like the head cocked to the side in a “whatchu lookin at?” kind of attitude. I don't want the bird looking sad. However, I am liking some designs coming through with the head pointing straight upwards, so it could be good to see both options, if possible!

I am a fan of brushstrokes, as in attachment 6 (Yuki, Fifth Dimension UK) and attachment 7 (Sweeping Girl, Etsy). So if that is a style that you like to work in, go for it.

I’m imagining a simplified, abstract outline, with bursts of crazy detail. And maybe it’s silly to say, but I want it to be beautiful.

Dimensions max 20cm wide x max 15cm high.
