I am writing a book that juxtaposes nonfiction with fiction. My problem at this point is I don't have the time I want to do both. So I'd like to try freelancer at this and see what happens.

My goal is to use fictional stories at the top of each chapter to ease people into the points I am making in the chapter, whether that be directly or indirectly. Each of these short stories should be a minimum of full 3 pages but no more than 5 page. That's for starters but there's a kicker.

My book is split into sections, for example, the second part of the book has 6 chapters in that section. Each chapter will have its own short story that relates to the material in that chapter. However, I'd like the short stories of each chapter in that section to link together in some form or fashion. By the time you are done if you took these six short stories out of the chapters they are in they should read as one big story. All the while still being careful to make sure each story still relates to the material focused on in the chapter. I hope this makes sense, if not I'll explain it another way if necessary.

For this particular contest, I am only asking for ONE short story for one chapter. The subject matter of the chapter is below, along with some guiding parameters for the short story. Ideally, if this works the winner of the contest will be asked to complete short stories for the entire section this chapter belongs to. So please don't enter this contest if you won't be willing to write the rest of the short stories. I will be paying the same amount for each short story as this contest so $450.00 in all for this first section of short stories. BUT you have to win this contest first!

**** Chapter Synopsis**** Excerpt taken from the chapter.
“Living” in a certain “state” is not a do it once or twice type of dedication, it’s an “I live my life like this all the time type of dedication.” Living in any state of existence can have a powerfully life-changing effect that takes an individual from chaos, ignorance, and negligence to order, understanding, and discipline. Sound familiar? Should! Health is all about consistency, it’s all about order and that’s what any state of existence is about. Health is a system, but not just a system, health is also a state of existence, one that should be lived and not pilfered through."

****Short Story Parameters****
The short story for this chapter needs relate to living life in a certain state of existence, don't care what it is, just as long as it a good state and not a bad one. It DOES NOT have to be about health! As a matter of fact, I would prefer that the short story is about something completely different! The short story can be about whatever you want it to be, I don't really care just as long as it fits this narrative AND has a decent plot that can be continued for 5 more chapters. The short story can be political, science fiction, otherworldly, mystery, literally whatever. Just make it interesting.

Hi. I'm not sure I've expressed my point well. I'll try again. The formatting of the Microsoft Word document, both with margins, font size and font type, affects both the final word and page count.

Completely disregarding standard fiction manuscript formatting, what font size, type, and page margins do you want us to adhere to?

Hi.

I have a question about the word count. In my experience, a story's page count depends on your word processor's formatting. Standard manuscript formatting yields about 250 - 300 words per page.

While you did mention (in reply to Astrid's question) that we should single space our document, would you like us to adhere to standard fiction manuscript formatting? (Which, among other things, calls for 1-inch margins.)

Hi everyone, thank you for the submission I have so far. I seem to running into a recurring problem as I read through all but one of the stories. Something I'd like you all to think about if your submitting from another country. 3 out of the 4 stories submitted so far would be hard for an American Reader to follow. There are errors in how you are stringing your sentences together. Typically doing so in a fashion that would make it difficult for American readers to follow the story to its completion BEFORE they become disinterested. As you are writing please, please keep this in mind. I would love entries from all over the world, but they need to read well for an American audience. Hopefully, I explained this is a way that does not offend anyone. I am not quite sure how else to say it.

  Not quite. The point of the short story is NOT health but what happens when you commit to it. You don't have to relate anything to health, I did put that in the description. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of healthy living the short story is to relate to that aspect of healthy living in some way shape or form. Directly or indirectly. In the description, I put a synopsis of what this chapter is focused on health as a state of living as opposed to off and on. So the short story can focus on dedication to a principle, a regime, a way of life, a code of ethics, a political system, a form of training, to bring home this point. It does not have to relate to health at all. The point is that anyone who lives in a particular state is characterized and supported by the principles and benefits that come along with that state of living.
