How Help Ease Separation Anxiety in Dogs?
Separation anxiety is a dog behavior that is regarded as unwelcome and harmful as he appears so stressed when his owner leaves him alone in the house. The symptoms of this problem behavior include barking, whining, scratching at doors and walls, destroying items in the house, chewing on shoes and trying to break free from confinement from his crate or room.
Dog separation anxiety may be caused by several factors, but the biggest contributor could be the pet owners themselves. The pets see their owners; excessive excitement when they leave the house or come home, thereby giving rise to these furry friends’ stress and negative reactions.
Dog parents are considered by pets as their security, source of confidence and their pack. These animals feel that they should be with their parents at all times, so when they are left alone, symptoms of separation anxiety are created. As a dog parent, you can do many things to ease your dog’s separation anxiety, and you can start with the following tips.
1. Before leaving your pet alone, take him to a walk. The purpose of this is to put your dog in a resting mode at the time that you are away. An hour or so before you go out, take him to an energetic fast walk. It will be better if you could put a backpack with an extra weight at his back, to make your walk more exhaustive. Then give him a reward of food and water.
