We have an open world medieval game, rendering 100s of houses, churches and people at any one time as the player moves around the world. We have already exhausted all our optimimsation skills, including using LOD, and using some tools to combine meshes into a single batch. But it is still running really slowly on PCs running reasonably good graphics cards (Ncida GTX 960+). We need an experienced unity developer to either 1) Optimisise the project for us 2) Provide a number of tutorials / examples about how to optimise (billboarding, lightmapping etc) so as to increase the performance. This is a uni research project so our budget is low hence why we are not using a consultancy to fix this. After some bad experiences with freelancer, please provide clear examples of unity experience and optimisation in your bids, those that don't will just be ignored.

Hello, I'll first put some methods that are a must creating open world games that maybe you guys didn't used. Ambient Occlusion - This is really necessary in heavy games, because, what it does is that it will divide the scene in clusters and if you cone of view can't reach it by it normal limits or by other clusters getting in the way it will not render, saving a lot of processing. E.g: you are inside the church you can't see the outside houses so don't render them. GPU Instancing - this is a fairly new option to Unity but what it basically does if that you use the same material for a lot of houses, it will pool material inside the GPU, so you don't need to recalculate for each object. Lightmaping(that you already put it) - In case you game do not have a day time system using a baked world can save a lot of power and doing it right is the job. Now my experience I worked with a game recently for Emoshape for their new EPU, called Dream it was shown in some VR events and it being show at CES now, basically its is a procedural and infinite world that is basically a enchanted realistic forest with events and animals to interact for VR, it was a performance challenge to the extremes because I couldn't use batching and most of the normal optimizers for it being procedural and infinity, the game run at 60 FPS at my 970 and runs at 60 fps at a 1070 with VR. Also I'm a game developer for about 4 years using unity and unreal to create games, systems and more. Thanks, Anderson
