Surf market research

There is a lot of information and market research on Surfing already. A summary of what I put together so far is attached in the word doc. Its mostly high-level stats, but also there are links to the original reports and websites where the data was drawn from- so have a look at these. Some of the source references are in small type at the bottom on the page, which can then be found using google. There may be some more surf data or research published in the last 12 mths as well. Here are the questions we need answered: How many surfers are there globally who surf more than once per year (wannabe/holiday surfers) How many surfers are there who surf more than 4 times per year (part time surfers) How many surfers are there who surf 12 times per year (regular surfers) How many surfers go on a surf trip once per year (committed surfers) How many surf sessions are done each year. In other words, how many times do surfers go into the water for a surf, each day, globally. Then multiply that by 365 days per annum. This will give us the total number of surf sessions per annum! How many waves are surfed on average per session (estimate) This multiplied by number of total sessions will give us TOTAL NUMBER OF WAVES SURFED PER ANNUM! (this is a key stat that Im after!) In the stats above, Body Boarders and SUP can be included – as they are generally regarded as “Surfing” as well. Once you get through the above, below are some more questions to tackle: How many people do a surf lesion each year globally? How many professional surfers are there? (Inc WSL surfers (QS and CT), big wave surfers, team riders (eg Occy), How many surf boards are made each year globally? (check out SEMA – surf industry manufactures association) Which are the top 10 surfboard brands? (by number or boards sold PA) Who are the top 10 surf brands (by revenue – eg Rip Curl, Billabong, QS, Hurley, Volvom, O&E, Komunity, Creatures of Leisure, etc) What is the total revenue of the top 10 brands
