hello i have imported virtualbox vm's to AWS EC2 instances before and can do it again for this project as well. I would make this process fast and create a durable AWS architecture for you. I am assuming you do not have AWS direct connect to your OpenVPN so I would recommend another solution called S3 Multi-part upload for speed of large OVF files. Other questions I have are centered around the actual end state you need architected for such a project. Its clear you want these VMS running in AWS but I am also concerned with your HA/DR plans for these instances once they are stood up. Have you considered using Autoscaling on the VMS or EFS for the filesystems once migrated? Will you need these in separate VPC's with separate IAM permissions and Security Groups or all in the same? Does the instance need to be monitored for high availability and do you also need log aggregation? These architectural questions and many more are the kind of implementation experience I bring to the table if selected for the project. If you just need a quick and dirty 'lift and shift', I can do that as well. Since the security vulnerabilities need to be reset hourly, I would recommend either crontab that you mentioned being used or just terminating and rebuilding the Ec2 instance from the original AMI state. I would break deliverables up into two parts. First milestone being for your architectural plan/implementation recommendation document. Second milestone would be the actual migration deliverable of the instances being stood up in AWS with necessary crontab/autoscaling implemented.
