We would base our blogging system in Wordpress, which works really well, it has a lot of flexibility and it is simple to use and maintain once delivered. As you guys want to extend your current website, adding the blogging functionalities there are a couple of options (in a sub-domain, possible the best one) or as a sub directory ([login to view URL]). Regarding SEO, install and configure all the necessary addons for SEO, plus advicing the you guys about how should to write the content once site is delivered, the SEO dos and dont's. Finally we will submit the website to the major Directories and configure statistics and other useful tools in order you to understand better your clients, what they like and what they dislike.
