The project will be completed via Greenfoot compiler. We need to have a GUI and must have the following requirements:

Procedure:

1. You will be doing the simulations in groups of 2-3. You should be paired with individuals in the same Physics level as you – people with AP 1 together, AP 2 together, CP & no Physics together. Get in those groups and rearrange seats if you need.

2. Take a look at the following PhET simulations for inspiration: [login to view URL]

Brainstorm ideas. Follow the guidelines for brainstorming: never criticize ideas during brainstorming, but “piling on” is welcome. Your project can be a simulation like Newton’s Lab or a game that highlights Physics principles like Asteroids. Try to make it original or interesting.

3. There are two scenarios that can help you aside from the ones we have already worked on. These are in the scenarios folder along with this assignment. You can take a look at them and use their code for inspiration. One of these is Marbles and the other is Wave. Remember – you need to come up with your own scenario but you may use some of the code you find elsewhere. Just be prepared to explain every line.

4. Develop one or two of your ideas with further discussion and documentation. Start a list of basic features that you must accomplish during the project timeline of three weeks.

5. Get the project approved by BOTH your AP CSA instructor AND your Physics teacher.

6. Strategize, code, and test in small increments.

a. Include Javadoc comments and basic comments as you develop your solution

b. Debug as you go.

7. Once complete, have at least two other people test out your program and get their feedback. Work feedback into the program.

8. Once complete be sure that the entire project is annotated, contains no copyrighted images or music used without permission (include a license or citation in a [login to view URL] if used with permission), and has Javadoc comments for all methods and classes. Remember that all Greenfoot sound and images are fair to use without a citation.

9. We will have a Gallery Walk when the assignment is done. You will then present the assignment in a 30 second Elevator Speech to the class.

10. You must prepare a presentation on the specifics of the Physics involved that you could show your Physics teacher. This must go in-depth enough to impress on the teacher that you understand the concepts involved. Keep the presentation to 5 mintes. Be sure you can explain:

a. The Physics concepts involved in your program

b. How the program completes calculations of mass, velocity, etc.

c. How one would calculate the values by hand

General Criteria (see rubrics for specifics)

● Create your own scenario but this may include Greenfoot elements you get from other scenarios, the Greenfoot community, or other elements.

● The game or simulation must include the following elements:

○ At least 4 classes or subclasses in total

○ At least 2 classes or subclasses that you create

○ Authentic Physics principles that are relevant to your class

○ String feedback such as a score report / win message / lose message / Calculated values etc.

○ Proper control and data structures: if statements, arrays, lists, and loops

○ Javadoc comments for each class and method

○ comments in code

● Keep it simple (KISS)! Don’t Repeat Yourself (DRY)!

● You must prepare and present a 30-second elevator speech for AP CSA

● You must create a 5-minute video or presentation with power point for Physics detailing the Physics principles and how they are accomplished with code.

Some additional advice:

● Read the rubrics. Plan your project to meet all of the rubric requirements.

● Know what you want to accomplish before you start.

● Exchange contact info with your partners. Inform each other if you will not be at school etc. during the project period.

● Find code online that accomplishes something you want to do but DO NOT look for code before you know what you want to do - it will just confuse you!!

● Good advice is to create a power point or other presentation explaining the Physics principles. You can do a video demonstrating your sim or game as well.
