This looks like a great project for a middle experienced java developer such as myself. My day job is to add new functionalities just like the ones you are asking to the Vodafone mobile company in my country. Since you have APIs to call I think that the best library for that is Jackson. Jackson makes it easy to call and receive information through an API. As for user interface, we will use jQuery. I use it everyday as part of my job, i know it very well and it is also very versatile. If you need any information to be stored, we can easily add an ORM (like Hibernate or myBatis) so our project will communicate with a database.
