HI the robot's path selection for movement is a quite optimisation problem which can solved by non linear programming and quite similar to Travelling Salesman Problem, but for that robot must have map or knowledge of all available routes so that he can select the optimum one. moreover if you add obstacle detection and avoidance and all other stuff then the task will be a bit comlicated and time is required for that.
