Create & Backtest a Technical Entry/Exit for Large Cap US Stock Trading Strategy

Hello, I'm a pseudo-proficient python coder who is interested in becoming involved in algorithmic trading. Thus, I already have the code in place to actually make the trades. I also have a screener that has yielded around 20 stocks with solid fundamentals. These are all big name, large cap stocks that should be solid investments for buy and holds. I'd like to refine the strategy more than just dividing my portfolio evenly with all stocks. With reference to the picture, the stock would be a good buy and hold option over the course of the year. I'd like to avoid holding the stock in times of great volatility and/or sideways movement. I'd like to hold stocks for times of consistent, gradual increases in the price. My basic idea is to hold a subset of the 20 stocks. For example, the top 5 "ranked" stocks at a given time. I would like this to be a partnership throughout. It's important we find a strategy that's feasible to implement in code. For example, setting the entry as "EMA crosses price" is easily understood to a computer, but something like "price hits a major support/resistance level" would be more complex to detect. I suspect the easiest manner to achieve the entry and exit would be some combination of technical indicators. Overall, you should accept this project if you have experience optimizing trading strategies. I'm especially interested in those who work with technical indicators. But you don't need to have any coding experience as long as you have a reliable means to backtest trading strategies.
