Off the field, shares of his international firm, Reliance Industries, have increased by more than 85% in the last year, bringing Ambani's net worth to $84.5 billion.
That is enough to make Ambani the richest sports club owner in the world. He takes the top slot from last year's winner, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
