Google Site - improve appearance of the site

We have a basic English Faculty Google site and would like the appearance improved. We simply want a more modern and engaging look for the site.

We don't want any functions changed or new functions added - just a better look for the site. The left-side menus and the horizontal menus must remain in place. The names for the menus must remain unchanged. You can change all images, graphics, colors etc. However the school logo must remain.
Please note, we are not just wanting a mock-up - we are wanting you to actually change the site and will authorize you to edit it to make the changes.
The site is not for students, it's only for teachers.
We would like a better banner, pictures etc. We would like the site to look modern and professional.
