Magento running slow need speed optimization - repost

I have a magento store with ~2k products hosted on hostgator VPS level 3 plan [login to view URL] The site is extremely slow and I cannot figure out why. Pages are taking 15-20 sometimes 30 seconds to load. I dont have a highly modified theme, and i have about 5 modules running, i could part with any one of them if they are the cause of this slowness.
I am looking for someone with a lot of magento/server experience who is confident that they can bring my page load speeds down to realistic 3-5 second load times, given the server specs and store size.
