Tell Me Why My Website Is Slow

I have tried waterfall view and did a lot of testing and discovered the file that takes the most time to load but i can't pin point exactly what the cause of the slow down is ..my guess is the database (cause the slowdown started when i reached about 1300 signups) or User sessions because none logged in pages load very fast.
I already have a developer all i need to know is the cause of the slow down so that my developer can fix it.
