qwik calc estimation

I created two excel files, originally in .xls format. I recently updated them to .xlsm format and they are now in a differently named folder. They are linked for data. The destination file includes a protection password. I tried to update the link between then, using the new source file name & location, but it won't let me do it manually and when I try to select update value or change source, Excel tells me I am trying to change a protected cell/workbook even though I have already unprotected the destination workbook. The source workbook is not protected by a password. What is wrong and what can I do to update the link? When I select edit link on the data menu, the edit link box includes automatic selected and I can't change it to manual or manually modify the link info shown or add the updated xlsm file name, etc. The destination file password is lset (no caps).
