Project: Data scraping / web scraping to a CSV file with header row included Deliverable: (1)script or executable to be run manually or scheduled in Windows 8 or 10. (2) source code Parameters (could be in a config file, doesn't have to be a prompt): (1) login, password, URL (not sure if all are needed), (2) last_updated >= DATE (last_updated is a value in the HTML table) to grab only values that changed since that date (3) dropdown on web page: select a single dropdown value or all values to iterate through, (4) WAIT_SECONDS - to prevent performance issues on the server or the PC Windows 8 or 10, I'd like to enter a WAIT_SECONDS duration (i.e. 3 seconds) that will be used when opening each web page. It should allow for 0 seconds as well. (5) local file path for folder to save CSV files (or just subfolder where the executable sits) (6) file_name + [login to view URL] Logic as I see it, but I'm open to other ideas: for each value in a dropdown on the landing page begin ...for each row in the HTML table built based on the select dropdown value (there's max 500 rows) ...begin ......if last_updated >= DATE then ......begin .........Open row in new web page which will have data in 4 tabs .........Dump data in CSV .........Close row web page ......end ...end end How many columns am I expecting in CSV: about 100 Questions for developers: 1. What tools and languages are you going to use? I understand some python and C#, I'd like to be able to read through the code or make minor modifications down the road if needed. But, I'm open to other options as I'm new to data scraping. 2. To run it, would I need to buy any licenses? or download some add-ins/libraries? 3. How long would it take? 4. Do you have any questions? How do you usually go about these projects?
