after a server hang and reboot, mysql no longer works. upon starting we get some permission error. Hello. Seems previously your mysql was run as root. You have to check permissions at /var/lib/mysql/ And could solve this by changing the ownership of the folder to mysql from group root (sudo chown -R mysql:root folder.

Hi, Do you running on centos ? Do you have selinux enabled ? This sounds as selinux problem and/or ibdata corruption. You have to check permission on your mysql datastore (maybe /var/lib/mysql) and check it selinux running. If are you running selinux you may try this restorecon -R /var/lib/mysql/ Let me know if you need further help. Regards
