I have a small dataset that has both socio-demographic charateristics and some clinical charateristics. My objective is to determine factors associated with length of stay (LOS), and total gross charges (TCHGS) for patients hospitalized with a specific condition. THIS IS A TOTALLY DE-IDENTIFIED AND PUBLICLY AVAILABLE DATASET. I am already proposing an approach and it will be up to the developer to modify it. The developer will conducting the analysis and interpret the results. I HAVE A TURNAROUND TIME OF LESS THAN 48 HOURS.

I have a Masters degree in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and 8+ years of experience working on HEOR projects for pharmaceutical clients. My research has been published in many journals and been presented in scientific conferences. I work as an independent contractor for pharma/consulting companies based in the US and Europe. I typically work with big insurance claims databases to study outcomes. Given that your data is small and assuming LOS and TCHGS have already been calculated, I believe you need help in conducting regression analysis and identifying statistically significant factors. I recommend using Proc Genmod with Poisson distribution for LOS and gamma distribution for cost, with log link.

Read the data set based on length or delimiter. Sum up the needed fields(here LOS and TCHGS) using PROC MEANS for unique patients condition. Write the output in the presentable format as proposed by viewers.
