Multiple origin traceroute project

Project scope is to develop a new command line *nix tool that takes the traceroute concept a little further. The idea is to trace multiple routes to the same host from different locations, roll the data up (find common AS pathways) and present a richer view than the current traceroute method which only delineates a single pathway. I would like to involve the community a bit on this as far as having a widget of some sort (Firefox plugin?) that allows people to become remote traceroute origination points so that when a request is made, some # of different origination points traceback to the one destination designated. Part of the project would be to research the state of the art as far as tracerouting goes and become familiar with the landscape in order to suggest an approach.
