The task is to create a tool (GUI) using any of the following languages or their combination – Excel/VBA/R/Python/Java/Xml – that would scrape gas and electricity tariff prices from the sites like [login to view URL], [login to view URL] or GoCompare.com. Focus on [login to view URL] for now, however the tool should be able to handle the other above-mentioned websites in the future too. In the UK there are 14 distribution areas, approximately 80 suppliers and each supplier can have more than one tariff for gas, power or both (the latter is called “dual fuel” tariff). The task is to scrape data for all suppliers for all available products and for all distribution areas using the inputs provided. Since the inputs can change overtime, it is essential that the tool has a feature where inputs can be defined by a user each time before the scraping algorithm is run. To switch from one distribution area to another, use 14 postcodes, one in each area. The tool should have an input field where a user can change the postcodes down the line.
