I need a paper written on the Film Director Martin Scorsese. The deadline to have this paper done and submitted to me is by the end of the day Thursday, April 26th, 2012. ## Deliverables **Requirements for Research Paper** Length: Seven to ten pages (double spaced with a 1 inch top and bottom margin and 1.25 side margins). There is a minimum word count of 2400 words. Do not use larger than a 12-point font size, Times Roman style is preferred. Microsoft Word format only please. Make sure your paper has the following nine components: 1. TITLE PAGE. (title, your name, course name and number, school name and date on a single sheet of paper, you can include an illustration if you'd like). Designing the title page as an actual book cover will give you extra credit, but is not necessary. 2. PREFACE. (half page in length) The preface introduces the topic, key theme of the subject and generally what is covered (Hint: it is usually easier to write this after you have completed the paper). 3. INTRODUCTION. (two to three pages) The introduction sets the cultural, political or psychological context for the paper. For example, if your paper is on Film Noir, you might want to give background on how German Expressionism set the stage for that genre and as what was the psychological significance of the visual effects. 4. BODY OF PAPER. (five to six pages) This is where you present your research and comparisons. This is the bulk of your paper. Edit, edit, edit and then edit again. Many a good paper has received mediocre grades because of sloppy writing, misspellings or bad transitions. Read it out loud or to a friend. It should not only have a good logic flow but should present its points in a clear, concise manner. Make sure it communicates the intent of the paper. The student's personal opinions should be avoided. I will be looking for a good balance of original thoughts and referenced material. A good acceptable balance between original observations and attributed/noted sources is 40% original and 60% attributed. 5. PLAGIARISM - Most students have no idea what constitutes plagiarism. Simply put, any thought not attributed/noted to another source (either directly or through paraphrasing) is considered plagiarism (for more information read the Citations section below carefully). The research paper should not be all attributed sources. Also, remember that simply listing sources in a works cited section does not relieve the student from citing throughout the body of the paper. **NOTE: We take plagiarism very seriously and will act upon all reports aggressively and accordingly. Do not put your future at stake!** Plagiarism (the presentation of other ideas as your own) is taken very seriously by this instructor and Ivy Tech. Students should be aware of the severe consequences of presenting ideas as their own when they are in fact from other sources. To aid the student in this area, I have included guidelines regarding plagiarism (under course documents). Be sure you read and understand the seriousness of this charge. (not mandatory but recommended) (throughout the paper or in a series of plates at the end) Illustrations of the artwork discussed (or close ups if relevant) are permissible, but they should be in addition to the body copy page count, not in lieu of copy. Always put full attribution on any images used. 8. CITATIONS. Always use quote marks when copying a source verbatim. If you paraphrase an author, give them credit either at the end of the sentence (Plato, p. 6) or in the body of the sentence (i.e., according to Plato). Refer to the school's policy on plagiarism in your syllabus for any questions as to the seriousness of charges of plagiarism by students. You may use footnote references as well if you please, either placing them at the bottom of the page or by 'ganging' footnotes at the end of your paper, called endnotes. Although, footnoting is allowable, it is not encouraged, as contemporary academic practices and most literary style guidelines (including APA and MLA) discourage both footnoting and endnoting as distracting in favor of noted attribution contained within the sentences, i.e., (Plato, page 6) or according to Plato). 9. REFERENCES. The list of sources following the body of the paper is called a reference list (your paper should have a minimum of eight (8) reference sources in the bibliography (check MLA for formatting style). If you use the internet for reference make sure you list the url. Students who use ONLY internet sources for their reference can expect to receive an academic penalty for doing so. **I would like to see at least three non-Internet sources referenced in your paper.**
