I have good experience with what you are asking for, that is automating the scripts over Linux. Which ARM based flavor for Pi are you going be using? I have worked previously with Raspberry Pi for setting up BTS (base transceiver stations) for private GSM networks. My work was mainly carried out on Debian and Ubuntu. But flavors with rpm packages will also be not a problem. Automating installations through scripts is a standard procedure we do here for setting up new machines (both Desktop and Server based). Usually the process involves copying a shell script on the target system after open ssh is activated on it. Sometimes remote calls using sshpass and scp also do the trick without the need of copying the script files to remote machine (this technique is good if you have to execute these commands only once). I always quote the delivery time way more than the expected time of resolving the problem. Cause its better to test everything thoroughly instead of finishing tasks in a jiffy where minute tasks might get overlooked. And in unattended shell scripts there are a lot of things that needs to be checked.
